Busuttin Dreaming of Derby Repeat
Trainer Trent Busuttin believes he has two genuine classic contenders in New Zealand-bred 3YOs Rising Red & Anaheim, reports racing.com. Busuttin, who prepares the duo in partnership with Natalie Young at their base at Cranbourne, is hoping to emulate the feat of Tavago who won the Gr1 Australian Derby during last year's autumn carnival in Sydney. And Busuttin & Young have every reason to be confident with Rising Red (Redwood) defying a wide trip for a fast-finishing second to Gingernuts in last weekend's New Zealand Derby, and Anaheim's (Fastnet Rock) similarly impressive fifth placing behind Hey Doc in the Gr1 Australian Guineas at Flemington. "He went great," Busuttin said of Rising Red. "The barrier beat him it's as simple as that…He was three-deep doing it tough and the winner had the drop on him but that's racing…I couldn't be happier with the horse." Busuttin said Rising Red was entered in all the major 3YO features during the autumn and winter carnivals. "He'll be Sydney, he'll be Brisbane, he'll be everywhere - they are only three once," Busuttin said. As for Anaheim, Busuttin said: "Again, if he draws a barrier, he finishes a lot closer to them. He's a 2000 metre horse and he's up to the Rosehill Guineas now and he'll be hard to beat there." He added: "The derby is the ultimate aim but the 2000m at his next start is what he's looking for."
