Buick to Ride in Australia

Wednesday, 8th March 2017

Godolphin's top UK jockey William Buick will ride in Australia over the next two weekends, including in the $3.5 million Gr1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on 18 March. Godolphin's head trainer in Australia John O'Shea welcomed the opportunity to utilise Buick's services. "One of the great things about the Godolphin team is that we can call on jockeys who have such wide international experience," O'Shea told Godolphin.com. "We've seen that both William and James [Doyle] are world class jockeys, they've come here before and fitted in straight away." A regular visitor to recent Australian racing carnivals, Buick won the Gr2 Skyline Stakes at Rosehill on Souchez in February last year and the Gr3 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Flemington last Spring on Francis Of Assisi for Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby. "It is one of the great privileges that goes with the job I have at Godolphin," Buick said. "It is an honour to be asked to go to Australia to ride for His Highness Sheikh Mohammed, especially in a race such as the Golden Slipper." Buick's likely rides over the next two weekends in Sydney include either Veranillo or Trekking in the Gr1 Golden Slipper, Hauraki in the G1 George Ryder Stakes, and Hartnell in the G1 Ranvet Stakes.
