Russian Revolution beats Astern in Trial

Wednesday, 8th March 2017

Russian Revolution (Snitzel-Ballet d'Amour, by Stravinsky) won a 1050m barrier trial at Randwick yesterday as he continues preparations for a first-up run in the Gr1 Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill on Golden Slipper day (18 March). The Peter & Paul Snowden-trained 3YO ran out a 1.75 length winner over a field that included Golden Rose winner Astern. A winner of 4 of his 5 starts, including last season’s Gr2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m) at Randwick, the China Horse Club-owned Russian Revolution hasn’t raced since finishing fourth behind Flying Artie in the Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes in the spring. Meanwhile, Astern is being aimed at the $2.5 million Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on 1 April.
