Abscess Ends Auckland Cup Hopes

Thursday, 9th March 2017

A foot issue has prevented the Darren Weir-trained Lord Van Percy (Sir Percy) from crossing the Tasman for Saturday's $500,000 Gr1 Auckland Cup (3200m) at Ellerslie, reports NZ Racing Desk. "He had a foot abscess. It was nothing serious but it was a long way to go with him not quite being 100 per cent," Weir's racing manager Jeremy Rogers said of the 7YO UK-bred import. Meanwhile, the stable is bullish about the prospects of the former New Zealand-trained Humidor in Saturday's Gr1 Australian Cup. "He's really well and he's a seriously good horse," Rogers said. Humidor (Teofilo-Zalika, by Zabeel) has finished in the money in all three of his starts since joining Weir's stable, including a last-start second behind stable-mate Stratum Star in the Gr2 Peter Young Stakes at Caulfield.
