Marsh Fancies Mare's Gr1 Prospects

Friday, 10th March 2017

Meanwhile, this week's inclement weather has buoyed the confidence of Stephen Marsh leading into tomorrow's Gr1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie, reports NZ Racing Desk. Marsh will saddle up last year's Australian Oaks winner Sofia Rosa (Makfi-Bislieri, by Encosta de Lago) who will be having her third start this campaign following two encouraging performances. She made late ground for seventh in the Gr1 NRM Sprint, and also found the line strongly for third in the Gr1 Haunui Farm WFA Classic. "Kawi will obviously be very hard to beat, but a wet track will really suit Sofia Rosa and give her every chance to show her best," Marsh said. "She will have to go close to winning if we are going to go to Sydney. Otherwise we'll be looking at Brisbane." Marsh added: "She's very well and I can't fault her condition. Getting up to 2000 metres is ideal for her."
