Sharrock Banking on Class Factor

Friday, 10th March 2017

Taranaki trainer Allan Sharrock will be relying on Kawi's (Savabeel-Magic Time, by Volksraad) class to overcome a potentially testing track on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. The 6YO will be shooting for his seventh Group one victory in the Gr1 Bonecrusher New Zealand Stakes (2000m) at Ellerslie. "A heavy track would put me in a bit of a quandary," Sharrock said. "But what else is there for him?" He added: "It's still basically a summer track and it won't be as testing as a heavy track at Ellerslie in June and the race won't hurt him. His class gets him a long way and that Savabeel toughness will also help." Kawi showed he was looking for the mile-and-a-quarter of the New Zealand Stakes when finishing strongly to win the Gr1 WFA Classic (1600m) at Otaki last start. "I couldn't be happier with him," Sharrock said. "I thought he was pretty dominant over the last four strides at Otaki and he has trained on exceptionally well. I think he has improved again."
