Heavens Above Wins Gr1 Coolmore Classic

Monday, 13th March 2017

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Darley's deceased shuttler & Gr1 Dubai World Cup winner Street Cry (Machiavellian-Helen Street, by Troy) celebrated a major Gr1 success when 5YO mare Heavens Above (Street Cry-Reggie, by Germano) scored by 0.2-length for trainer Tim Martin in the $600,000 Gr1 Coolmore Classic (1500m), over 4YO mare Silent Sedition (War Chant-Fiorentina, by Dubai Destination) & fellow 5YO mare Danish Twist (Dane Shadow-Madame Flurry, by Perugino). Given ever opportunity by jockey Tye Angland, Heaven's Above arrived in the shadows of the post to take her record to 5 wins (also including the Gr3 Sheraco Stakes & Gr3 Aspiration Quality) & 9 placings (including the Gr1 Queen of the Turf Stakes, Gr3 Epona Stakes & Gr3 Keith F. Nolan Classic) from 21 starts for $955,170 earnings. Trainer Tim Martin, who saddled his first Gr1 winner in 6 years, intimated that the Gr1 Doncaster Handicap is next on the agenda for Heaven's Above who was passed in by Broadwater Thoroughbreds (now Bhima) for $170,000 as a yearling at the 2013 Inglis Easter Sale.
