Awesome Rock Retired

Tuesday, 14th March 2017

Gr1 winner Awesome Rock (Fastnet Rock-Awesome Planet, by Giant's Causeway) has been retired and will embark upon a career at stud, reports racing.com. Co-trainers Leon and Troy Corstens confirmed yesterday afternoon that Awesome Rock's connections had decided to call time on his career following his disappointing 9th place finish in last Saturday's Gr1 Australian Cup. Leon Corstens suggested Awesome Rock may have had an adverse reaction to a vaccine that was administered to the 5YO for a planned trip to Dubai about four weeks ago. "He hasn't quite been the same horse since he was vaccinated. It seemed to flatten him," Corstens said. "I just think it's all caught up with him." Awesome Rock retires with 4 wins from 28 starts for $2,038,720 earnings. The highlight of his career came when he the Gr1 Emirates Stakes in the spring. From the Gr3 winner Awesome Planet, Awesome Rock hails from an excellent sire-producing family that includes Archway and Shinko King, as well as English Derby winner Dr Devious.
