Cruel Injury Blow for Top Filly

Tuesday, 14th March 2017

Injury has ruled out smart New Zealand filly Eleonora (Makfi-Sopra Tutto, by Van Nistelrooy) making a return trip to Australia, reports NZ Racing Desk. "She was lame after she galloped on Saturday and she's got a slight muscle tear," said Andrew Forsman, who prepares the daughter of Makfi with Murray Baker. Eleonora's setback is a bitter blow as she had showed she was on target for the $1 million Gr1 Australian Oaks when winning the Gr3 Sunline Vase (2100m) at Ellerslie last start. "It's gutting, but at least it's not a long-term issue and she'll be fine in time," Forsman said. Stakes placed last season, Eleonora broke her maiden at Geelong in the spring before progressing to win the Gr3 Ethereal Stakes at Caulfield and placing third in the Gr1 VRC Oaks.
