Danehill Dancer Euthanised

Coolmore has reported that Danehill Dancer, who had been enjoying life at its base in Ireland since his retirement from stud duties in 2014, was euthanised on the weekend due to the infirmities of old age. A dual Gr1 winner as a juvenile, the son of Danehill went on to became Champion sire in Britain and Ireland in 2009 and was Champion 2YO Sire on three occasions. As a broodmare sire he enjoyed a stellar year in 2016 being responsible for multiple Gr1 winners The Gurkha, Minding and Alice Springs. “Danehill Dancer was a wonderful sire and has left a significant legacy at Coolmore through his sons Mastercraftsman and Choisir and grandson Starspangledbanner, while The Gurkha is a very exciting sire prospect for the future,” said M.V. Magnier. “His brilliant daughter Legatissimo was scanned in foal to Galileo this morning and Minding and Alice Springs will be very welcome additions to the broodmare band once they finish their racing careers.” Some of Danehill Dancer’s other top-class progeny included multiple Gr1 winner Private Steer, multiple Gr1 winning sprinter and world-class sire Choisir, Australian Guineas winner Light Fantastic, 4-time Gr1 winning sire Mastercraftsman, and dual Gr1 winner Lillie Langtry, dam of the aforementioned Lillie Langtry.
