Rosehill Hit-Out for Winx

Wednesday, 15th March 2017

Champion mare Winx tuned up for Saturday’s Gr1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) with a 1000 metre gallop at her home track at Rosehill yesterday. The world's best turf horse will be seeking her 16th consecutive victory and her 11th at Gr1 level in the $1 million weight-for-age feature which is one of five Group One races on Golden Slipper day. "She had a gallop over 1000m steadily increasing the tempo over the last 400," trainer Chnris Waller told racing.com. "Hugh Bowman was on board and he was happy. It was a good maintenance gallop to help bridge the three-week gap between runs." Waller is aware that the George Ryder will present Winx with the toughest challenge of her campaign to date. "It's a great field," Waller said. "It's going to be a good challenge. Obviously Chautauqua and Tosen Stardom are there as is Black Heart Bart, Le Romain and a few others there as well. It's great for racing and she'll have to be at her best."
