Ryder Distance No Problem for Chautauqua

Wednesday, 15th March 2017

Meanwhile, co-trainer Michael Hawkes is adamant that Chautauqua will have no problems with the 1500 metre trip of Saturday’s Gr1 George Ryder Stakes at Rosehill, reports racing.com. Chautauqua, who is one of ten horses who will attempt to bring Winx’s 15-race winning streak to an end, hasn’t never raced beyond seven furlongs. "We don't think the 1500m is an issue. He's had three starts at the 1400 and it's just a nice race for his next stepping stone,” said Hawkes, who trains the multiple Gr1 winner in partnership with his father John and brother Wayne. "It's going to be a really good race. It's going to be a great contest. She [Winx] hasn't been beaten in 15 or 16 starts.”
