Redkirk Warrior will carry 52kg in next month’s $3 million Doncaster Mile after receiving a 2kg penalty for his win in last Saturday’s Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington. Trained by David & Ben Hayes & Tom Dabernig, the UK-bred Redkirk Warrior (Notnowcato-Flag, by Selkirk) created history by becoming the first horse to win the time-honoured sprint first-up from a spell. The Newmarket was first run in 1892 when Wild Rose saluted. Meanwhile, Heaven’s Above was penalised 1.5kg for next month’s Gr1 Doncaster Handicap for her win in last Saturday’s Gr1 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill. The Tim Martin-trained mare will now carry 51.5kg in the $3 million feature.
