OBS 2YO in Training Day-2: $1.7M For Congrats Filly
A daughter of Congrats sold for $1.7 million to Kerri Radcliffe as agent on Wednesday to be the overall sale topper for the 2017 OBS March Sale of 2YOs in Training Sale. Consigned by McKathan Bros as agent, the dark bay or brown filly is out of the Dixie Union mare Azalea Belle, a daughter of graded stakes winner Westerly Breeze. Her eighth in :9 4/5 was the co-fastest at the distance at Friday’s Under Tack session. There were three other million horses on Wednesday, including a filly by Tapit out of a Giant’s Causeway daughter of champion mare Azeri for $1.1 million; a colt by Arch out of Enhancing (by Forestry) for $1.05 million; and a bay colt by Pioneerof the Nile which brought $1 million. For the entire sale, 300 horses sold for a March sale record gross of $56,627,000 compared with 320 bringing $51,288,000 last year and surpassing 2015’s mark of $55,432,000. The average price was a record $188,757, up 17.8% compared with $160,275 a year ago, and beating the previous record of $187,201 in 2014. The median price was $100,000 compared with $102,500 last year.
