QLD Amends Fees Structure for Bookies

Friday, 17th March 2017

Racing Queensland has taken action after an independent review identified that on-course bookmakers in Queensland were paying substantially more in total fees than their New South Wales and Victorian counterparts, reports Racing Queensland. To create a more competitive and fairer landscape Racing Queensland issued a control body directive prohibiting clubs from charging on-course bookmakers stand fees. In the short-term Racing Queensland will provide financial support to affected clubs and will review club funding arrangements to ensure that clubs can achieve a sustainable long-term business model. The arrangements for on-course bookmakers have also been substantially simplified with the abolishment of the On-Course Fielding Incentive Scheme (OFIS). The OFIS changes mean the net impact to bookmakers will remain unchanged at 1% of their turnover and they will be shielded from any other additional fees. Racing Queensland will maintain its pass-through of the 1% fee to clubs.
