Thee Auld Floozie Wins Gr2 Westbury Classic
At Ellerslie in New Zealand yesterday, 4-time Gr1-winning Windsor Park shuttler & former European Champion 2YO Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer-Starlight Dreams, by Black Tie Affair) added a Group success when 5YO New Zealand-bred mare Thee Auld Floozie (Mastercraftsman-Thee Auld Hussie, by Spinning World) scored by a nose for trainer Stephen Marsh in the $100,000 Gr2 Westbury Classic (1400m) for 3YO+, over 4YO New Zealand-bred mare Mime (Mastercraftsman-Maidjeu, by Montjeu) & fellow 5YO mare Lucyinrio (Captain Rio-Forever Tango, by Sound Reason). Thee Auld Floozie, who is out of the Spinning World mare Thee Auld Hussie, winner of the Listed Manawatu Breeders' Stakes (2000m) and Listed Rangitikei Gold Cup (1600m), improved her record to 10 wins (including the Gr1 Thorndon Mile, Gr3 Sunline Vase & Listed J Swap Contractors 1400) and 7 placings (including the Gr3 Manawatu Breeders' Stakes) from 28 starts for NZ$425,460 earnings. "There wasn't much in it, she was brave," Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh told NZ Racing Desk. "She knocked up the last bit and she will be perfect for the Breeders' Stakes at Te Aroha now, that's the logical race for her." He added: "After that we'll have a crack at the 2000 metre race (the Gr2 Travis Stakes) at Te Rapa on April 29 and then she'll go to the paddock. She's a fully grown mare now and I think she's going to be even better next season."
