Winx Primed for Ryder

Friday, 17th March 2017

Chris Waller says all is well with champion mare Winx ahead of tomorrow's Gr1 George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill. The world's best turf horse will be seeking her 16th consecutive victory and her 11th at Gr1 level in the $1 million weight-for-age event which is one of five Group One features on Golden Slipper day. The 5YO Street Cry mare has drawn barrier eight for the time-honoured event for which she is a $1.15 chance with Tab. "Although the weather has been wet it hasn't interrupted her preparation at all…topped off this morning [Thursday] with a nice gallop to put the finishing touches on. Her condition is exactly where we want it to be," Waller told racingnsw.com.au. "It was great to hear Hugh's [jockey Hugh Bowman] comments after he dismounted saying she is a good as we can get her." Waller added: "It's never perfect to be racing on heavy tracks but Rosehill looks very safe. There is good grass cover and when you've got that it helps absorb the water and make it a nice smooth track for the horses."
