Consommateur Wins Gr3 Epona Stakes

Monday, 20th March 2017

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney on a heavy track, The Oaks Stud's dual Japanese Gr2-winning & Gr1-placed stallion Roc De Cambes (Red Ransom-Fairy Lights, by Fairy King) added a Group when 4YO New Zealand-bred mare Consommateur (Roc de Cambes-Consumer, by Zabeel) scored by 2.8 lengths for trainer Mick Kent in the $150,000 Gr3 Epona Stakes (1900m) for 3YO+ fillies & mares, over fellow 4YO mares Ambience (Street Cry-Miss Right Note, by Daylami) & Top of My List (High Chaparral-Beauty Watch, by Belong to Me). The lightly raced but highly promising Consommateur, who was a $30,000 purchase at the 2014 NZ Bloodstock Select Yearling Sale from the draft of The Oaks Stud, advanced her record to 3 wins and 3 placings from 6 starts for $128,600 earnings. "We had this race in mind the whole prep," trainer Mick Kent told Sky racing. "She's out of a Zabeel mare and she's a big mare as you can see, so she will be even better next year." He added: "I'm probably going to head to Adelaide with her. There's a 2000 metre Stakes race for mares over there, I'd say that's where we will head next."
