Saracino Wins Gr2 Wellington Guineas

Monday, 20th March 2017

At Trentham racecourse in New Zealand, Little Avondale Stud's 2007 Champion Italian 3YO Sprinter Per Incanto (Street Cry-Pappa Reale, by Indian Ridge) added a Group success when smart New Zealand-bred 3YO colt Saracino (Per Incanto-Bella Daniela, by O'Reilly) scored by a long neck for trainers Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman in the $100,000 Gr2 Wellington Guineas (1400m) for 3YOs, over 3YO gelding Top Prospect (Swiss Ace-Princess Carolina, by More Than Read) & fellow 3YO colt Cut Me Loose (Swiss Ace-Scent of Joy, by Redoute's Choice). Saracino, who races in the distinctive lime green silks made famous by former star Kiwi mare Lucia Valentina on behalf of owner Lib Petagna, improved his record to 3 wins (including the Gr2 Danehill Stakes & Gr2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 NRM Sprint & Gr1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes & Gr3 Taranaki 2YO Classic) from 12 starts for $327,090 earnings. Saracino is now likely to travel to Australia for the next month's Gr2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint at Randwick.
