Filly from Best in Show Clan Wins Debut
Well bred filly Shamar made a pleasing debut when winning a 2YO fillies maiden plate (1100m) at Kyneton yesterday. Trained by Lee and Anthony Freedman, Shamar showed a good turn of foot in the straight to run down the leader Totally Kaptivated to win going away by 1.5 lengths. Godolphin filly Ellenroh, by Exceed and Excel out Lonhro's stakes winning sister Shannara, finished an eye catching third. A $155,000 purchase by Belmont Bloodstock at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Bhima Thoroughbreds, Shamar is by Street Cry out of the Encosta de Lago mare Demonstrable and is a direct descendant of celebrated blue hen Best in Show, ancestress of multiple champion Australian sire Redoute's Choice among others. "She's a very nice filly," commented stable representative Steve Adams. "She's by Street Cry out of a staying mare so to win today over 1100 metres, she did that on raw ability. She's going to be a nice filly over further."
