Winx George Ryder Win on Par With Cox Plate
Racing Victoria's Executive General Manager of Racing, Greg Carpenter says Winx’s George Ryder Stakes victory last Saturday was the equivalent of her stunning 8 length win in the Cox Plate in the spring, reports racing.com. Winx’s Cox Plate success earned her a career-high international rating of 132, making her the world’s best turf horse. "I thought Saturday's performance in the George Ryder was probably the equal of her Cox Plate win when she beat Hartnell by eight lengths last year," Carpenter said. "She ran into two serious racehorses in Le Romain and Chautauqua and won by seven-and-a-quarter lengths and for me, she's going to get back to a mark of around 132.” Carpenter added: “When the first listings were released for 2017, her and Arrogate were equal on 127 and there's no doubt that she surpassed that performance on Saturday in running to a figure of 130-plus.” The Chris Waller-trained Winx will be shooting for her seventeenth successive victory and her twelth at Gr1 level when she has her final autumn start in the showpiece event of The Championships - the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on 8 April.
