Quarterback Seeking Reid Redemption

Wednesday, 22nd March 2017

Trainer Robbie Griffiths is hoping luck is on The Quarterback's side when he lines up in the $500,000 Gr1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night. The Gr1 winner put up a huge performance in last year's edition of the weight-for-age sprint feature when running home powerfully for fifth after missing the start by several lengths. "When you break down last year's race with the start he gave away at the beginning of the event, you would think he would've been right in the thick of things had he not done that," Griffiths told racing.com. "His performances have been good there [Moonee Valley], so hopefully we can get a good crack at them." Griffiths is confident the 6YO can bounce back to his best after failing to defend his title when a first-up 10th in the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap (1200m) at Flemington. "We go there with optimism we can regain form," Griffiths said. "It was a bit hard to assess the Newmarket run…there was a lot of track bias on the day. He worked well this morning [Tuesday] so we hope to see the real Quarterback on Friday night."
