Seal to Avoid Wet

Wednesday, 22nd March 2017

John Thompson is anticipating an improved performance from classy mare First Seal when she has the second start of her campaign this weekend, reports racing.com. The Randwick horseman says the Gr1 winner is likely to be a dual acceptor for the Gr2 Sunline Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley on Friday night and the Gr1 Emancipation Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday in an attempt to find her preferred firm conditions. The China Horse Club-owned mare finished 15th when resuming in the Gr1 Coolmore Classic last start, but Sydney's prevailing wet weather did not aid her winning prospects. "We need to keep a good watch on the weather," Thompson said. "If Rosehill was looking like it was going to be heavy again, we have got her in at Moonee Valley on Friday night if it looks as though it will be dry." He added: "She has stripped a lot fitter with that run under her belt and she'll go a lot better this weekend with a more positive ride."
