Winter Carnival on Cup Winner's Agenda

Wednesday, 22nd March 2017

The connections of Chenille (Pentire-Charmed, by O'Reilly) are considering a winter campaign in Brisbane for last Thursday's Gr1 Auckland Cup (3200m) winner, reports theinformant.co.nz. The 5YO mare posted a comfortable win in the $500,000 Ellerslie feature, and may now be aimed at the Gr2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) at Eagle Farm on 10 June. "It was great to see her come out and win the race like that," trainer, co-breeder and part-owner Tony Pike said. "We've been through a lot with her this season, she's been plagued by wet tracks and things like that, so for her to show what she can do in a big race like that was very satisfying." Pike added: "She'll head out for a short break now. We'll definitely bypass Sydney with the wet tracks over there, but depending on how she looks when she gets back from her break, we could look at taking her over for the Brisbane Cup."
