Lady Lynette Son Wins Debut

Thursday, 23rd March 2017

Nicely bred colt Medlyn may head north for the winter carnival in Queensland after making an impressive debut at Warwick Farm yesterday. The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained 3YO jumped smartly to lead before letting down with a sharp sprint at the top of the straight to score unextended by 3.5 lengths in the Pierro @ Coolmore Handicap over 1100m. Bott said the winter carnival was definitely on the agenda for the highly regarded youngster. "We couldn't be more impressed with that today. He showed good early speed and was able to control the race and accelerated well to the line when asked," Bott told Sky Racing. "He's taken plenty of time to mature physically. The owners have been very patient but its paid dividends today. There's plenty of upside to this horse. He's a horse that will probably go to Queensland." By Medaglia d'Oro, Medlyn is out of the 8-time stakes winning and multiple Group winning Tasmanian mare Lady Lynette. Raced by a syndicate comprising Segenhoe Thoroughbreds, Gerry Harvey and Kate Waterhouse, Medlyn was a $310,000 purchase by Gai Waterhouse Racing at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Harvey's Baramul Stud.
