Nikolic Loses Appeal

Thursday, 23rd March 2017

Jockey Danny Nikolic has lost his latest legal challenge to have his riding licence reinstated, reports the Herald Sun. The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal yesterday upheld Racing Victoria's 2015 decision to revoke Nikolic's licence because he is not a fit and proper person. "Racing Victoria submits that Mr Nikolic has a history of violent, intimidating and aggressive conduct which extends beyond the racing industry," VCAT Deputy President Heather Lambrick said. "There are too many factors which weigh against Mr Nikolic's application, the combination of which lead me to conclude that he is not a person of good reputation and character and a fit and proper person to hold a licence to ride." In a statement read by his lawyer, Nikolic said he was "bitterly disappointed" with the decision. "Danny maintains that he suffered a substantial penalty arising out of his altercation with the chief steward, Terry Bailey, and he has served more than his time by virtue of that incident," the statement said. Racing Victoria did not comment on the decision.
