Gun Filly Spelled

Friday, 24th March 2017

Star Kiwi filly Volpe Veloce won't be seen again this season, reports NZ Racing Desk. The aptly named Volpe Veloce, whose name in Italian translates to "fast fox", has hitherto won seven of her eight starts, including the Gr3 Eulogy Stakes (1600m) at Awapuni, and the Gr2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) & Listed Karaka 3YO Mile (1600m) at Ellerslie. Her only defeat came when she was a gallant fourth in last month's Gr2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic (2000m) at Te Rapa. "I am leaving her out until the spring," trainer Graham Richardson aid. "She'll probably come back and trial at Te Teko in early August and then we'll start making spring plans for her." By Newgate Farm's Gr1-winning shuttle stallion Foxwedge (Fastnet Rock), the aptly named Volpe Veloce, whose name in Italian translates to "fast fox", is a half-sister to Listed Black Opal Stakes winner Delago Bolt from the Gr3 Blue Diamond Preview winning filly Bardego.
