Leading Derby Hope Sidelined

Friday, 24th March 2017

The prospects of Rising Red (Redwood-Diva in Red, by High Yield) turning the tables on Gingernuts in Saturday week's $2 million Gr1 Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick have suffered a setback after he pulled up lame during trackwork yesterday morning, reports racing.com. "We're still not exactly sure what is wrong with him, but he appears lame in the near-fore and you have to be at 100 per cent to win at that level," trainer Trent Busuttin said. Busuttin estimates the 3YOs chances of lining up for the blue-riband classic on 1 April are only 10 per cent. "I can't see him being able to race in the Derby in just eight days, but we'll wait to make a final call on the weekend, whether or not he will go on this preparation," he said.
