Sofia Rosa Back Home

Friday, 24th March 2017

Quality Kiwi mare Sofia Rosa (Makfi-Bislieri, by Encosta de Lago) has had her autumn campaign brought to a premature end, reports NZ Racing Desk. Trainer Stephen Marsh decided to cut short her Australian sojourn after she finished a well beaten 5th (9 lengths behind winner Our Ivanhowe) in last weekend's Gr1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) in Sydney. "She arrived back home on Wednesday and she's in the paddock," the Cambridge trainer said. The decision means last season's Australian Oaks winner will not take her place in the showpiece event of The Championships – the $4 million Gr1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Royal Randwick on 8 April. Marsh said he would talk to Sofia Rosa's owner Lib Petagna in the coming days regarding her immediate future.
