Jack Hobbs Wins Wins Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic

Monday, 27th March 2017

At Meydan racecourse in Dubai, 5YO entire Jack Hobbs (Halling-Swain's Gold, by Swain) made a triumphant return to the track when scoring by 2.25 lengths for trainer John Gosden in the US$6 million Gr1 Dubai Sheema Classic (12 furlongs) for 4YO+, over 4YO mare Seventh Heaven (Galileo-La Traviata, by Johannesburg) & 6YO Irish-bred entire Postponed (Dubawi-Ever Rigg, by Dubai Destination). Having his first start since finishing third in last October's Gr1 Champion Stakes at Ascot, Jack Hobbs added to his Gr1 Irish Derby success by improving his record to 5 wins and 4 placings from 10 starts. The victory was a rewarding one for Godolphin who missed out on campaigning Jack Hobbs for most of last year due to injury. "We earmarked this race for him some time ago now and put the blinkers on him tonight. We knew the galloping track would suit him and this is his ideal trip," trainer John Gosden told Racing Post. "There may only have been seven runners but it was a strong race and it was a good performance. We'll take him home and make a plan for him with Sheikh Mohammed." Gosden indicated Jack Hobbs would be aimed at the Royal Ascot carnival in June.
