Spectroscope Wins Gr3 Doncaster Prelude

Monday, 27th March 2017

At Rosehill Gardens in Sydney, Darley's multiple Gr1-winning shuttler Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado-Cappucino Bay, by Bailjumper) added a Group success when 4YO US-bred entire Spectroscope (Medaglia d'Oro-Diamondrella, by Rock of Gibraltar) scored by 1 length for trainer John O'Shea in the $150,000 Gr3 Doncaster Prelude (1500m) for 3YO+, over 4YO entire No Doubt (Not a Single Doubt-Alalunga, by Machiavellian) & 6YO gelding Marenostro (Duelled-Maybe Yes, by Last Tycoon). Spectroscope, who was a US$325,000 purchase by Godolphin at the 2014 Keeneland September Yearling Sale from Taylor Made Sales Agency, is now unbeaten in his two Australian starts and improved his record to 4 wins and 4 placings (including the Gr2 Prix Eugene Adam & Gr3 rix du Prince d'Orange) from 9 starts for $248,463 earnings. Trainer John O'Shea said Godolphin would now give serious consideration to running Spectroscope in Saturday's $3 million Gr1 Doncaster Mile for which he is now ballot exempt. "We think he is quite a nice horse. We think he is up to the top level particularly in Australia," O'Shea said. "If he happened to have a good week we'd give good the race goo consideration."
