Bellotto Dies Aged 33

Successful sire Bellotto (Mr. Prospector-Shelf Talker, by Tatán) has died at his home at Rosden Park (formerly Paumah Stud) in South Australia, reports Racing Post. He was 33. Bred in the US, the near black son of Mr Prospector was a talented racehorse placing in both the English Derby and 2000 Guineas before embarking on a career at stud. Launching his career at Arrowfield Stud, Bellotto would go on to sire 45 stakes winners including six Gr1 winners. Among his leading progeny were Gr1 The BMW, Gr1 Turnbull Stakes and VRC Derby runner-up Littorio, Gr1 South Australian Derby winner Bullwinkle, Gr1 Goodwood Handicap winner Bellzevir, and Gr1 Adelaide Cup winner Exalted Time. Bellotto was also an influential broodmare sire leaving Queensland Oaks winner Miss Danehill and New Zealand Derby winner Coniston Bluebird.
