Gr1 winner Hucklebuck (Elvstroem-Kondari, by O'Reilly) has been euthanized after suffering a bout of colic, reports AAP. The 2015 South Australian Horse of the Year was retired after suffering a tendon injury in October last year. Trained by Adelaide horseman Phillip Stokes, Hucklebuck won 8 of his 20 starts for over $1.1 million in prize money. His biggest win was in the 2014 Gr1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week. Hucklebuck's regular rider Dominic Tourneur tweeted: "Absolutely saddened & gutted to hear that my mate and much loved #Hucklebuck has had to be put down today due to health issues RipChamp." Stokes also expressed his sadness via Twitter: "Rest in peace to our stable favourite Hucklebuck, he brought us so much joy over the years. Gone but no forgotten."
