McEvoy Confident Boom Colt Ready for WFA Test
Jockey Kerrin McEvoy has declared Russian Revolution spot on for Saturday's Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick after partnering him in his final serious workout yesterday morning, reports racing.com. The richly talented colt looked to have returned from a break a more complete racehorse when resuming with a narrow but decisive win in the Gr1 Galaxy (1100m) at Rosehill eleven days ago. On that occasion the China Horse Club-owned 3YO carried just 51kg, whereas on Saturday he rises to 56.5kg under the more demanding weight-for-age scale against much better credentialed opponents. However, McEvoy, for one, is confident he is up to the task. "That is obviously going to make it a little bit tougher, no doubt, but he's a good quality horse and he's in top shape," McEvoy said. "It's a tougher test again on Saturday, but he's won around Randwick and showed that he enjoys it so that gives us another tick as well." McEvoy added: "Peter and Paul have had him just primed to improve a bit into his second run and his work showed me this morning that that was exactly what he's done." With the recent retirements of Gr1-winners Extreme Choice and Flying Artie, Russian Revolution (Snitzel-Ballet d'Amour, by Stravinsky) has the opportunity to stamp himself as Australia's best 3YO sprinter with a victory this weekend.
