Spright Returns Day 2 of The Championships
Hawkesbury trainer Garry Frazer is desperately hoping for a dry track at Royal Randwick on Saturday week for his star filly Spright, reports racingnsw.com.au. Frazer declared the Hinchinbrook filly ready to return to racing in the $600,000 Gr2 Arrowfield 3YO Sprint (1200m) after she won a 1000 barrier trial with Corey Brown in the saddle at home yesterday morning. "Corey said she was still a bit hesitant on the wet ground, but she has such a great will to win," Frazer said. "I'd love to see some continued drier weather and get a better track for her on Saturday week." Spright stamped herself as one of the best sprinting fillies in the country in the spring when defeating a quality field in the Gr3 VRC Crown Resorts Plate (1100m) at Flemington on Oaks day. Then, after a first-up third to Global Glamour in the Gr2 Light Fingers Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on February 13 on a good surface, she never looked comfortable on heavy ground when eighth to La Bella Diosa in the Gr2 Surround Stakes (1400m) at the same track 12 days later. "I gave her an easy couple of weeks in the paddock at home after the Surround," Frazer said. "She is going well; we just need a firmer track for her to show her best." Frazer said he is also planning a winter campaign in Brisbane for Spright.
