NZ Gr1 Winner Spelled

Thursday, 30th March 2017

Ugo Foscolo's fledgling Australian career has been put on hold, reports NZ Racing Desk. The New Zealand-owned 3YO was turned out after his unplaced run in the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes in his first appearance for new trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. "He's out spelling after that one run on a very, very heavy track," racing manager Emma Pearce said. "He pulled up quite muscle sore over his back and hind quarters so Gai decided to put him in the paddock and let him mature further." Pearce added: "He'll probably have six weeks out. We all know he is so much better than we saw in that one run." Ugo Foscolo had been a runaway trial winner at Warwick Farm before he was undone by the testing Randwick going in his Australian debut earlier this month. The Zacinto 3YO had previously won five of his six starts, including the Gr1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas when in the care of Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh.
