Menari Seeking Sires Redemption
Corey Brown is confident that prodigiously talented colt Menari can turn the tables on his female rivals in tomorrow's Gr1 ATC Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) at Royal Randwick. The Gerald Ryan-trained 2YO put up a huge effort to run fourth (he was third past the post but relegated on protest) behind fillies She Will Reign, Frolic and Tulip in the Gr1 Golden Slipper (1200m) two weeks ago, despite never looking comfortable on the very heavy surface. Indeed, Brown commented post-race that Menari never handled the wet track and that his "wheels were spinning" in the conditions. "I wouldn't choose another one over him," Brown told AAP. "It was the first time I'd been on him so I was really, really impressed with him." He added: "He's a horse that's definitely going to go places. He's got a great attitude, he's very mature and Gerald said he pulled up 110 per cent after his run in the Slipper." Brown says he is not concerned about the step up to seven furlongs and is just hoping for a trouble free run. "His first run when he won was the only time he had everything go his way," Brown said. "Every other time he's had a race start he's had thing go wrong and he's still had the audacity to overcome those little things and still run well in the Slipper."
