At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Vinery's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winning stallion Pluck (More Than Ready-Secret Heart, by Fort Wood) added a Group success when 3YO gelding Mongolian Wolf (Pluck-Oomaroo, by Tale of the Cat) made an auspicious Australian debut when landing the $150,000 Gr3 Frank Packer Plate (2000m) for 3YOs, over 3YO colt Veladero & fellow 3YO gelding Screamarr. Having his first start for new owners Australian Bloodstock after being purchased from the yard of Murray Baker & Andrew Forsman, the Darren Weir-trained Mongolian Wolf advanced his record to 4 wins and 1 placing (the Gr2 ARC Avondale Guineas) from 9 starts for $119,372 earnings. Mongolian Wolf, who is out of a half-sister to multiple Group winner Thump, was originally purchased for $8,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, then sold for $30,000 at the 2015 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, before subsequently being sold for $200,000 at the 2015 NZB Ready To Run Sale of 2YOs.
