Winter Plans for Gatting

Wednesday, 26th April 2017

Impressive WATC Derby winner Gatting (Hard Spun-Stubborn, by Lonhro) will be aimed at Belmont Park features in the winter, reports the West Australian. Trainer Darren McAuliffe said Gatting was enjoying a short break following his 1.75 length win in the Gr2 WATC Derby (2400m), before resuming against older horses in the weight-for-age Gr3 Belmont Sprint (1400m) at Belmont on 3 June. "He's having two weeks off," McAuliffe said. "He's still in the paddock now and he'll be back in work on Friday." Gatting's other targets are the Listed Belmont Guineas (1600m) on 24 June, Listed Aquanita Stakes (2000m) on 8 July, and Listed Belmont Classic (2200m) on 22 July.
