Sandown Gallop for Rupee

Tuesday, 1st August 2017

Star sprinter Lankan Rupee will have a track gallop at Sandown tomorrow to familiarise himself with the circuit ahead of the rescheduled Gr3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) on Sunday, reports racenet. The $150,000 weight-for-age sprint was postponed after dangerous winds forced Saturday's Caulfield meeting to be abandoned after just four races. Trainer Mick Price says the missed run will not affect the preparation of Lankan Rupee, who missed the entire autumn carnival and has not raced since finishing fourth to Malaguerra in the Gr1 Darley Classic in November. "If I'm going to the PB Lawrence and then the Memsie, it's still 13 days (between runs). It's not ideal but I can work around it," Price said. "I'm maintaining a steady course." The Gr2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) will be run at Caulfield on 19 August, with the Gr1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) run at the same venue a fortnight later (2 September).
