Stellar Wind Wins Gr1 Clement L Hirsch Stakes

Tuesday, 1st August 2017

At Del Mar in the US, top-class 5YO mare Stellar Wind (Curlin-Evening Star, by Malibu Moon) claimed the sixth Group One win of her career when successfully defending her title in the US$300,000 Gr1 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (8.5 furlongs), defeating Vale Dori & Faithfully. The Virginian-bred Stellar Wind advanced her brilliant record to 10 wins (including the Gr1 Beholder Mile, Gr1 Santa Anita Oaks, Gr1 Clement Hirsch Stakes, Gr1 Zenyatta Stakes & Gr1 Apple Blossom Handicap) and 3 placings from 15 starts for over US$2.3 million in earnings. "She ran really well,” said winning trainer John Sadler, who was celebrating his 61st birthday. “I was nervous because of the way favourites have fared here, but she's a good mare. She came through and she stuck her nose out at the end like she usually does.” Stellar Wind will run next in the Gr1 Zenyatta Stakes as a prelude to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff later in the year.
