Top Ryan Colts to Trial

Tuesday, 1st August 2017

Trainer Gerald Ryan has confirmed that exciting 3YOs Menari, Trapeze Artist and Condor Heroes will trial over 900 metres at Rosehill today. Ryan says the classy trio has improved significantly from their juvenile seasons, and is expecting them to play major roles in the upcoming 3YO features in the spring. Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) and Condor Heroes (Not A Single Doubt) are being aimed at the Gr1 Golden Rose (1400m) in Sydney, while Ryan has previously indicated that Menari (Snitzel) could be pointed at the stallion-making Gr1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) in Melbourne. Ryan said that he believed Menari's forte was sprinting, and that he is therefore unlikely to join his stable-mates in next month's Golden Rose. "Menari's a big, strong horse that weighs about 580 kilograms," Ryan told racing.com. "I'll just see how he goes at his first few back. He'll kick off in the Rosebud [Listed Rosebud over 1200m at Rosehill on 12 August] before we go to the San Domenico [Gr3 over 1100m at Rosehill on 26 August] and then we'll see if he's racing like he can go to 1400 or whether we keep him to pure sprinting." Ryan said he rated Menari slightly superior at this stage of the colts' preparation. "I would have a leaning towards Menari but in saying that Trapeze Artist did nothing wrong in the autumn," he said. "[And] Condor Heroes had an interrupted preparation last time," Ryan said. "He seems a lot more relaxed now. He's a more mature horse."
