At Awapuni in New Zealand, NZ-based Berkley Stud's Gr2-winning stallion Highly Recommended (Fastnet Rock-Suggestive, by Al Hareb) sired his first stakes winner when 2YO black gelding Waldorf (Highly Recommended-Skite, by Pins) posted a comfortable win in the $50,000 Listed Ryder Stakes (1200m) for 2YOs, defeating Nuclear Fusion (Power) & Style By Design (Iffraaj). A $30,000 purchase by his trainer Andrew Campbell at the 2016 NZB Select Yearling Sale, Waldorf improved his record to 2 wins and 3 placings (including the Listed Wellesley Stakes) from 7 starts for NZ$57,325 in earnings. Continued improvement from Waldorf could see the good looking colt make an appearance in Melbourne during the spring, reports NZ Racing Desk. "He'll get a mile later on and he will be nominated for the Caulfield Guineas, although it's early days yet," Campbell said. "He'll probably go to the Wanganui Guineas and we'll make a call from there." Highly Recommended first-crop winners also includes the Gr1 Manawatu Sires' Produce Stakes placegetter Joyfilly.
