Savile Row Gets Serious

Wednesday, 2nd August 2017

Highly promising 4YO Savile Row had his first serious hit-out at Flemington yesterday morning as he prepares to kick off his spring campaign in the Gr2 Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) at Flemington on 16 September, reports racing.com. The Kevin Hickman-owned son of Makfi showed last season what he is capable of when finishing runner-up at Gr1 level on three occasions, namely in the NZ 2,000 Guineas, Levin Classic, and Herbie Dyke Stakes. "He did his first bit of three-quarter pace this morning and he's going to head to the Bobbie Lewis first-up," trainer Mike Moroney said. "He's still a stallion so we've got to try and make him into a stallion. He's a lovely horse and he's got Group One form." Other feature race targets Moroney has in mind for Savile Row are the Gr1 Rupert Clarke Stakes, Gr1 Toorak Handicap, and if his form warrants it, the Gr1 Cox Plate.
