Stylish Trial Win for Gr1 Mare

Wednesday, 2nd August 2017

Top New Zealand sprinter Perfect Fit began her spring preparation by winning her heat at yesterday's Te Teko trials, reports theinformant.co.nz. Making her first public appearance since finishing 11th in the Gr1 Waikato Sprint in February, Perfect Fit looked a picture of health winning her 820m heat by three-quarters of a length unextended over Galaxy Miss & Caesour's Dream in a time of 50.97 seconds. Perfect Fit is a $10 chance for the first Group One race of the season – the Tarzino Trophy (1400m) at Hastings on 2 September. "It was a nice trial, good to see," co-trainer Ken Kelso said. "She looked like she cruised into it and when Mickey gave her a squeeze she extended well." Kelso added: "She's had a good blow but that's not surprising after what has been a fairly long break and the track's pretty testing too. She came here for a hit-out and we've got a line on her, so this will set her up nicely for the Foxbridge Plate on the 19th and the Tarzino Trophy two weeks after that." By Elusive City out of the three-time Gr1-winning mare Fayreform, Perfect Fit's biggest win to date was in last year's Gr1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes (1600m) at Te Rapa. She was also placed in New Zealand's feature summer sprints, the Gr1 Railway and the Gr1 Telegraph in January.
