Yankee Rose Wins Trial

Wednesday, 2nd August 2017

Star mare Yankee Rose (All American-Condesaar, by Xaar) will travel down to Melbourne in the next fortnight as her preparation steps up for the spring, racing.com. The 4YO, who hasn't raced since finishing a well beaten favourite (14th of 15) in the VRC Oaks on 3 November, won a barrier trial on her home track at the Sunshine Coast yesterday morning. "She is coming along much better this campaign than she was at the same stage last year," trainer David Vandyke said. "She isn't what you would call a flash trialler [sic] but she was good again today for her standard. It was a relatively slow trial and she had cover before improving and then holding her advantage to the line." Vandyke added: "The plan at this stage is to have another trial at Cranbourne on August 21 and that should have her right up to the mark for the Memsie in the first week of September." The dual Gr1 winner, who missed the entire autumn after having a bone chip removed from her knee, will resume in the weight-for-age Gr1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 26 August. Her primary spring target will be either the Caulfield Cup or the Cox Plate.
