Missile First-Up for Jungle Edge
Evergreen sprinter Jungle Edge will return to action in Saturday's $200,000 Gr2 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick. The Mick Bell-trained 7YO will make his first appearance at the races since a career-best campaign which netted him wins in the Gr3 BRC Sprint & Gr3 ATC Star Kingdom Stakes, as well as Gr1-placings in the Galaxy Handicap, All Aged Stakes, and Kingsford-Smith Cup in the autumn. The son of Dubawi is also entered for Sunday's Gr3 Bletchingly Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield, but bell says he is highly unlikely to run. "The entry for the Bletchingly was made just in case we got a power of rain but that doesn't look like happening, so I don't think I'll even accept," Bell said. "He'll probably be short of a run on the weekend but he's stripping nice and fit, however it would have been good to get a trial into him first." Bell said Jungle Edge was likely to campaign in Sydney to take full advantage of his fondness for soft ground. "I feel the tracks down here [Melbourne] drain too well," Bell said. "I'd be lucky to get something to suit and I think our best chances are in Sydney. I've been incredibly lucky with the weather at times, so I have to learn to be patient."
