Oaks Winner To Resume in PB Lawrence

Thursday, 3rd August 2017

Talented but injury prone mare Abbey Marie (Redoute's Choice-Catshaan, by Catrail) will open her spring campaign in the Gr2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on 19 August. The 5YO will then progress to the Gr2 Dato' Tan Chin Nam Stakes (1600m) at Moonee Valley, before a decision is made about her ultimate target – the $3.1 million Gr1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) on 21 October. "I think we'll go to the Lawrence and then the Dato', which will be the fork in the road to decide whether we go to either the Sunline Stakes (1600m) against the mares or the JRA Cup (2040m)," trainer Mick Kent told racing.com. "She's had a jump-out and she'll jump out again here at Cranbourne on Monday and then go to the Lawrence. It's the best she's been since she was crook." The beautifully bred Abbey Marie - who is a full-sister to Australian Oaks winner Absolutely - marked herself as one of the most promising horses in the country when claiming her first Gr1 victory at just her third career start in the Australasian Oaks in May last year. However, a string of health issues, including a bout of laminitis, have proved most disruptive to her career.
