Quiet Trial for Gingernuts

Thursday, 3rd August 2017

Star Kiwi colt Gingernuts (Iffraaj-Double Elle, by Generous) continued his spring preparation with a quiet trial over 1000 metres at Te Teko on Tuesday, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Gr1 New Zealand Derby and Gr1 Rosehill Guineas winner will embark upon a Cups' campaign in Melbourne in the spring. "He had a nice day out and he's a lot bigger this year," said Jamie Richards, who trains the now 4YO in partnership with Stephen Autridge. "He'll probably trial again and kick off in the Tarzino Trophy at Hawke's Bay." Richards added: "He'll be entered for the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups and whether he runs on the last two days at Hawke's Bay before he goes we're not sure just yet." Gingernuts' younger brother Griffin, the winner of his only start last season, also stretched his legs in a 1000m heat. "He just ran home under his own steam and we're happy with him," Richards said.
