Winter Ready for Nassau Test

Thursday, 3rd August 2017

Tonight’s Nassau Stakes (10 furlongs) at Goodwood will bring together a stellar group of fillies vying for further Group One glory. The 2017 race promises to be a high quality renewal with the likes of English & Irish 1,000 Guineas winner, and Coronation Stakes winner Winter, Breeders' Cup winner Queen's Trust, John Gosden's highly regarded So Mi Dar, and Godolphin's Group 1 winner Sobetsu all lining up. That is despite top fillies such as Shutter Speed and Nezwaah, and Godolphin’s brilliant filly Wuheida being withdrawn from the race on account of the very soft ground. Trainer Aidan O’Brien said he expects race favourite Winter to handle the step up to a mile-and-a-quarter for the first time. "It's her first time over a mile and a quarter but she is in good form," O’Brien told Sky Sports. "We always thought she was a very high-class filly. From the first time she ran she has progressed with every run.” He added: “You can never be sure that she will get the mile and a quarter, but she is by Galileo, which is obviously a big help."
